About

Johanna Sjödin

Johanna Sjödin (b. 1987) grew up in Häckeberga in southern Sweden — where chickens are your best friends and rubber boots are a way of life. For her fifth birthday she was “given” Dalby, the village where she would live for thirteen years. With few activities around, and little interest in engines, hanging around town squares, or moonshine, she made a close companion of the pen.

At Spyken in Lund she completed upper secondary studies with a focus on music. In 2006, as her final school project, she organized her first art exhibition at Dalby Library.

That same autumn she moved to the boarding school of Blekinge County Folk High School to attend a one-year art program. With free access to studios, tools, and materials, Johanna found her love for oil paint, watercolor paper, and stoneware clay. After the year, back in Skåne, she continued to explore and develop her artistic practice independently.

For a long time she worked as a professional artist in Malmö, with her studio in the kitchen. In 2019 she found new inspiration in Leipzig, Germany. In Plagwitz she lives and works — and runs her gallery and shop.
